Brass Scrap or Something Else???????
« on: January 05, 2018, 05:27:43 PM »
Hello, Does anyone know what this is, or may have been used for? Seems to be all brass, maybe a valve of some sort? I am wondering if it has any value, other than going into the scrap brass bucket. Thanks, Lou

I would agree with Bill and I3414 but it will be bronze rather than brass. And since it is now a nautical item it will be worth much, much, more .

Hello, Guys. Thanks for the replies. After a closer look, and guessing at its weight, I will go with bronze. I like the idea of a bilge drain, but being a landlubber, and a city boy, I can't picture it in use. Here are pics of it dis-assembled, looks like the remains of a gasket, or, plumber's putty on the flat area. The tapped holes go all the way through the body. Regards, Lou

The hull of the boat gets sandwiched between those two pieces and is usually installed in the lowest rearmost accessible part of the bilge with the scupper opening facing rearward.

Hello, I didn't look for that before. Yes, it is a capital W over a capital C. Thanks, Lou

The WC catalog that I have is from 1955, and has a Syracuse 3  label with a 6 digit phone number. You guys sure narrowed down my catalog search by identifying the piece as a bilge drain, I was looking at a plumbing catalog!!!Now if I can just remember where the other catalogs are before I ask for help!!!!!!!!!!!
