Barcalo wrench iron bronze alloy?
« on: January 06, 2018, 12:05:46 PM »
This tool is magnetic however it does have a goldish copper color to it. At first I thought it was nonsparking because of the color but due to its magnetic properties I’m not sure. Could be some strange cover LA this tool is magnetic however it does have a goldish copper color to it. They probably didn't finish plating it.

Barcalo has some wrenches that are nickel plated giving them a yellowish look compared to silvery chrome.  See if you can post a picture.  There's a tutorial in General Discussion.  Welcome to ToolTalk!

Hello, Mark. Welcome to Tool Talk from Central New York. I took a picture of a wrench that I have here, is this the same hue as the finish on yours? I have not been able to determine what I have here, either. My photo skills aren't great, but I hope this helps. Regards, Lou

Yes, your wrench looks like mine; same color.  Looks like an old penny.

Trouble posting with my iPad; file too big.

I can't remember who it was but there was a company that did use a plating similar to that and described them as non sparking. I don't think the were offered for long before someone realized that once the plating was nicked all bets were off. Otherwise I would suspect that the nickel finish has been either worn or washed away by wear, chemicals, fire or some other means.
A person who could really read human minds would be privileged to gaze on some correct imitations of chaos.

Here while back I was searching Alloy Artifacts for a similar finding on a Plomb wrench that was magnetic but appeared to be a copper color.  AA stated that Plomb (and I'm guessing others) sometimes used a copper undercoat over which they would apply nickel or chrome plating.  Could be your wrench has had the top coat worn off and it is the undercoat that is showing?
