Here is another estate sale item I picked up. It's a ratcheting pipe threaded made my Toledo Pipe Threading Machine Corp.  It looks just like my Ridged pipe threader.  What era do you guys think this is from ??

Hello, Ken. I have a similar one here that belonged to my dad. I can check with him as to when/where he got his. Regards, Lou

That is the same one I bought several months ago. It came with a 1/2 inch NPT. Ridgid die which is the die I needed at the time. A few months earlier I had picked up 6 sets of Ridgid replacement cutters for the die heads. The sizes were in 1/2, 3/4 and 1 inch. I am thinking Toledo and Ridgid must be related some how. MY Toledo tool came in handy when I plumbed my garage with air lines.
I paid a around $15.00 for the handle with the 1/2 die and $1.00 for each package of 4  replacement cutters.

Hello, Ken. This was given to me by my dad, who received it from his father-in-law (my grandfather).  We are guessing my dad received it around 1950, and that my grandfather owned it in the 30's, so this example is at least 80 years old. Toledo Machine was founded in 1888, and Ridgid (The Ridge Tool Co.) had always been based in Ohio, first in Ridgeville,Ohio, and then to its current location in Elyria, Ohio. I tried to find a link between the 2 companies, but no luck. Regards, Lou

That one looks like an early one. The ones from the 40's or 50's on look a little different. The only connection with Rigid, and I'm only speculating as I've never been able to confirm, is that they both may have been contracting Erie Tool Works to manufacture some of their products.
The Toledo Pipe Threading Machine Co. started in 1902 . It became Toledo-Beaver Tool Co. after merging with Beaver Pipe Tool Inc. in the early 60's.  Toledo-Beaver was purchased mid to late 60's by Curtis Manufacturing to become Curtis-Toledo Inc. located in St. Louis.
