Stanley Dowel Jig No.59

Bought a box lot at auction last Saturday, knew this jig was in the box, but was after a Diamond Calk Horseshoe wrench, an early one, drop forged tool steel.  Was not until I got home that I found how nice the dowel jig was, and complete.  Here it is-----

Wow coolford!  That is a great find.  Those Stanley dowel jigs are accurate if used correctly.  Nice!

Doweling is somewhat out of favor, but it's a useful procedure, and those are handy little jigs.

I think you're right about that, Bill.  It seems like biscuit joiners and Kreg jigs sort of replaced doweling.  I'll admit that once I finally bought a biscuit joiner, using dowels to make some connections, particularly on edge joints, was pretty much over.  I still use dowels to add some decorative detail and strength to other joints like rabbets occasionally.
