I have this memory that, some time in the last couple of years, there was a thread, and my remembery says it was here, talking about vises like the one pictured below.  It seems to me that, wherever the thread was, there was a final I.D. on the vise.

Was it here?  I couldn't figure out how to search for it here.

Looks like a hand saw vise, but I assume you are seeking more detailed information.
You might say I have a tool collecting problem....

jaws on this one are 4" wide - not likely to be a saw vise.

Hello, Bill. I have seen that style vise before. I started to think leather, or, tack room/harness work. Next thought was for tire repair?? vulcanizing? Nice vise, by the way!!!

Or, as yadda said "hand saw vise". Small saws, dovetail, or, tenon saw?

I had one like that posted a few years ago. Was told it's for leather work.
Of all the things I've lost , I miss my mind the most

I think it is a harnessmaker's or strap vise.  I will go look in my leatherworking tool book.

I could not find it in my books, but I still think that is what it is.  There were also earlier wooden ones that you held between your legs.
