Good Day,
My wife found this cool blade in a pile of tools. It uses a No. 8 utility blade which don't appear to be made anymore. Does anyone know what the specific purpose was if any or who made them?

Taxidermyman

I think x-acto made these many years ago. But it is a very outdated design, and not preferred for medical use due to the fact that It is hard to clean compared to a regular scalpel. I cannot say what x-acto was thinking with this design, but it's very hard to find the blades. I've felt the same when I find cool old utility knives! Blades are always hard to find. I had an old brass furrier knife with one dull and unusual blade. My plan was to purchase a modern blade with a similar shape and then bore the correct holes so that it locks into place.
