Ratchet repair for Bob.

Some time ago Bob asked if anyone could find him a selector switch for an OLD Crafstman ratchet he had. I sent him a spare I had, but, it was nowhere near close. He sent me the rat, and I ended up repairing the baby rattle selector knob he had. Took pics as I went.
First was a total disassembly and cleaning. Found it was an oil port, "D" post, rocker pawl setup.
Next, I drilled a hole in his selector knob disc. I then epoxied a steel rod in it, and then put a little glob of epoxy on the rod. I held it and turned it - while the epoxy set - in an orientation that gave it a teardrop-sort of shape close to what the original shape was.

I then sanded and filed the epoxy down a little at a time, shaping it as I went. I think it came out pretty good. Lubed up the rat, and sent it back to Mr. W.

That is a narrow clip long lever selector.  The bottom tip of the selector is cut out, which is a design flaw because the tip can break off.

There may be another selector repair in your future.

I bought this one and the selector tip was bent down.  A common problem because of the cut out design.  Because it is bent I could not compress the clip to remove it.  I knew that if I tried to pry the tip up the pot metal would most likely break.  I pried it up and ... it broke.

Went to Sears and the guy behind the counter let me remove the selector from an exchanged ratchet.  Was not paying attention as the selector does not have the cut out.  The selector came from a wide clip ratchet.  It will not work with a narrow clip ratchet.  Next time I am at Sears I will see if they have a narrow clip selector.

Yeah, you yanked my chain pretty good.
Once you told me you'd had that tool for 60 years, I was going to find a way to fix it.
