Very old Vise Grip Type pliers
« on: March 27, 2012, 04:03:01 PM »
Cleaning out a tool drawer today, I found these. Don't know much about the company. Nothing in AA. Looks like they were in business from 1866 to 1985 when Vermont American bought them out. Marked 'Seymour Smith & Sons, Oakville, Conn.' 'Powr Grip No 607' 'Pat Pending'

Found this info from a brace collector

I think Powr-Grip turned out to be too close to Vise Grip, so they became Snap-Lock pliers....

Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

Thanks Rusty, I guess that dates it as pre 1948

hmm, looks like Seymour was living dangerously....

The application for the patent was in 1948, but the patent wasn't issued until 1952..

I have a pair or Seymours, but they are Snap--Lock.

There are 2 patents.

Yours is different than what I have.  Yours is like the ad from Rusty.  Never seen a Powr-Grip made by Seymour.
