Blue warranty on a vintage wrench that I broke?
« on: April 05, 2012, 04:02:03 PM »
I like to use old tools at times to fix things. It's neat.
I grabbed this Blue Point DOE wrench, put the 25/32nd" on a nut, on an old wagon part and applied pressure to remove it and ,,,"ping", a part this wrench flew off onto the lawn.

I will put this wrench back in the cabinet with other old wrenches. Keepsake.
Then, I thought maybe it still would be warranted??
Snap-On,Blue Point.
Serves me right to not of used a newer wrench or socket.
But then again, I'm an old crippled up tool, and still like to do things.
I probably have 20 or so different tools I could of used to remove that nut.
Sorry,,,old wrench,,,,,,,,,,,,

Been there, done that...

Me: Hey, I broke this 50 year old snapon wrench..

Truck guy: Where the bleep did you find *that* thing...

Hey, it worked fine until it broke....

You don't expect me to replace it do you?

Yes, I do, it has a lifetime warranty.

Umm...hmmm...well....OK, here's another one :)

Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

Snap On has been awesome in the warranty dept. I handed back a Snap On wrench that I beat with a ball peen hammer and broke the open end off. I kinda knew that it wasn't going to be replaced but when he saw it sitting on my box where I put the broken tools he rolled his eyes, swore at me but gave me a new one.He has also replace the 40 year old Blue Point wrenches as well. Mac guy would have told be to go *&#@ myself.

I have always felt that Mack makes the finest boxes, I have a big snapper and its quality cant compare to my old Mack
Always looking for what interests me, anything early Dodge Brothers/Graham Brothers trucks ( pre 1932 or so ) and slant six / Super six parts.

Lifetime warranty

I have returned a 3/8 inch ratchet from the 50's with a extremely bent handle(practly half way). He replaced it onsite no questions ask.

So I would think you can get it replaced if you want, but I could be wrong. That was my expiernce thoe.
And I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

Okay from what I remember about tool warranty, the companies carry an insurance policy on the tools they make, or sell.   If something comes back broken their on site adjuster looks it over and okays or denies it.  Usually the company will issue a credit for broken tools turned in anyhow, but often its just the tool guy that takes the bite for replacement because its good business.   And good for his business.  Sometimes you turn some in and they all get denied, so what does he do, grins, and goes out to sell some more, since the guy that had the broken tool is now smiling while he looks at his new tool.   Ain't no way you're getting it back from him at this point.  Chuck, you could try to warranty that wrench, but, won't get a similar wrench back, as the 25/32 probably hasn't been made since 1958.  And any present day wrench won't fit your set very well, plus will probably be a snapon not a blupoint, so many times today bluepoint wrenches are only sold in sets, your tool man may vary.
