The 25 Cent Table and the Pampers Box
« on: May 19, 2012, 08:49:10 AM »
As promised from the Howdy page, I did get in one walk through a neighborhood sale yesterday before heading out of town today.  The neighborhood has houses that are less than 10 years old, so expectation of finding old tools was not high.  There was one house that had a 50 cent table and a 25 cent table of tools and most of it was junk.  I think the hammer, ratchet and oil can came from the 50 cent table and the rest from the 25.  That spool of stuff turns out to be Stik-Trak, a flat braided conductor that goes down in the grooves of old timey slot car tracks.  It might actually be collectible in some form or fashion.  At the time, it was 3 pounds of copper for a quarter and headed to the scrap yard next trip.....oh, and the Pampers box?  That's the only thing she could find for me to throw the goodies in as I was sorting through the stuff.  Thought I better clear that up for all you Creative Writing Majors out there.....

From the upper left, a Balkamp 4-640(I think) oil can, a Bridgeport wooden  file handle, Dimalloy slipjoint Pliers(needing TLC), 3 SK bits.
Craftsman cadmium plated V Series 1/2 Rat and most of the complimentary sockets and U joint.  Missing the 5/8" and maybe the 3/8".  Wondering if this is WWII vintage??  No numbers on it for sure.  Took it apart and the innards are in great shape, but it's a coarse tooth model and pretty stiff action.  May need to spend a minute or two at AA for some info.

Riverside DBE, Billings SBE, Craftsman hammer, MAC M-4476 Side cutters(after I cleaned it up), Dunlap stubby, Crescent Slot,  C-Man Professional  Philips, and the roll of Stik-Trak.  She rounded it all to $5 and I left hastily.  Maybe shoulda got her son's phone number!!

DWM,

Your Crafty ratchet was made by Moore Drop Forge and was sold by Sears from 1953 to 1956.  A good cleaning and lubing usually restores the boxhead ratchets to smooth working order.  And, that's satin chrome, not cadnium.

Nice score at the 25 & 50 cent tables, especialy the Diamalloy groove-joint pliers, my personal favorite pliers.

The back of the handle should unscrew- you may find tools inside!

And here''s a shot of the other side of the old V series C-man rat that Lauver didn't need to ID it....

DWM,

Don't feel bad about the multitool discovery.  I had a wood handled eggbeater style drill for 15 years before I discovered there were drill bits in the handle.  It just never occured to me that the handle could be unscrewed.
