I had good visits to the pawn shops yesterday and today. Besides the Rota Grip ratchet shown in the the other thread, today I got a nice hammer and pliers along with the Anderton tool. My guess is that it is for installing snap rings but that is only a guess based on the logo. I'd like to hear from someone that knows for sure what it does. Thanks.

The Anderton tool (now Cirteq) is a mass production tool for installing inside snap rings. The tool goes with a dispensor that holds a bunch of rings, you insert the tool and it comes out with a ring preloaded, you then stick the loaded ring into whatever thing you are assembling....

Designed to keep the dang things from flying around the room in a nice production environment...
(Kinda takes the fun out of it tho..)

schwiiiiiiiing!
Hey joe, that was that?
dunno, large bug?
schwiiiing-thud!
hey!ouch! those bugs bite hard!
Just a weathered light rust/WD40 mix patina.

I may be wrong, but I think your Anderton tool is for installing E-clips.  These will fit in a groove on the outside of a shaft to prevent lateral movement of the shaft or to keep something like a bearing, from coming off.

And as Rusty said, they are used in a production environment.

I tried to copy and paste the E-clip image into this message but it wouldn't let me do it.  Is there a way?
Right click the image and choose View Image Info
On Page Info make sure you are in Media, then copy the image url from where it says Location
Then you can paste that url in your post using the Image icon above the text box of your reply. It is the first icon on the left in the second row.

Never seen a JD hammer stamped that way, I wonder if it was in a factory at one time?  Pliers too, now that took a good eye.  That MAC bar is commonly called a roll-head bar, or sometimes a lady-foot bar, indispensable for heavy work.   Got one just like it, about the same age too.  I believe it dates back to the 50s, at least.

kxxr,

The Anderton tool may indeed be a snap ring/E-Clip installer, but it looks like it would also make a great spark plug boot puller.  Give it a try and see if it doesn't work.

kxxr,

Your JD hammer and pliers may be very rare and collectible.  I looked on ebay and didn't see any.  They may fall in the same category as the International tools that were on ebay several weeks ago that went for big money.  There was a thread on this site about them.

Anderton is one of the largest manufacturers of snap rings etc. They probably bought the tool from someone like Vaco that makes those kind of things. Nice score on the JD hammer and pliers. Does anyone know if those were for sale at dealers or were they just factory tools?
