Wednesday Night Auction In Coggon, IA
« on: November 16, 2012, 03:48:03 AM »
Got there a littl late due to work obligations, and the tools were outside in the dark.  Luckily I had my maglite in my pocket or I couldn't have told what was on the pallets.  Got one whole pallet of stuff for $3, including one of the Kennedy boxes. spent like $58 and a few extra singles for some items I bought out of others' winnings.

I'll post the photos now and detail them later......I promise.

The weather reporters say there's a serious low pressure zone in the vicinity of Cedar Falls, Iowa, that they are unable to explain using standard meteorological models.  "It's almost like there's some huge vacuum pump sucking all the air out of the area," said one meteorologist.

Looking forward to more details.  That one hacksaw looks interesting indeed - what's the cylinder on the top of the handle for?

Ahh, out in the dark with a flashlight pawing through rust, this is good!   Not like I've never done that you see.   The hacksaw, in the top photo, is actually a plunge saw, note there is no holding fixture on the handle.   I have one just about like that.   The round piece moves through the handle, so one can saw anywhere just the blade goes.  Underneath the wrenches is a yellow plastic handled screwdriver, and I'm betting its a Klien, wonderful quality.    Quality suckage for sure.  Glad you didn't get hurt hauling all this to the truck.

Nice haul DM, I would like one of those screw drivers with the fold out lever, never seen one of them out here!John is right, the hacksaw is a plunge saw, I also have one that looks the same. Mine is branded, Hale.Hamilton & co Ltd London. The other side has Padhacksaw Pat No 512611 Made in Great Britain. Bill, that chamber on top contains the spring. I have had mine since the late 50s! Didn't we talk about one of these before?

Graeme:  That Swallow foldout screwdriver in the photo has a rather bunged up tip and is in "fair" condition at best.  Thinking that it's a size larger than the other three I photographed a month or so ago.    ...and now I lay me down to sleep....

JohnK:  That screwdriver is actually a Mastercraft with an H-xxxxxxnumbers I can't make out.

Graeme, This  plunge hacksaw is also a Padhacksaw and it actually plunges.  Will be a challenge to clean it up, but there's no hurry.

Okay,  The top photo has A SnapOn  3/8" drive 5/8" deep wall impact socket, 1/4" Craftsman V series rat with a rather massive 7/16" socket with it, Then the SK 3/8" rat, The bunged up Swallow Airplane co. Screwdriver, , the Mastercraft square-shanked slot screwdriver, the Padhacksaw, A Proto 1145 DBE  1"x15/16", and A V series Craftsman 15/16" combo.

The second photo has almost a complete 1/4" drive Fleet socket set that's old enough to have 3 8 point sockets included.  The plastic hinge 's days are numbered though, but the rat and sockets are in excellent shape.

The third photo has sitting on top of the Kennedy tool box, a 1/4" vintage Craftsman(single hash mark on each side of the logo) speeder in immaculate condition, a Bonney 1/2" Speeder, a mystery pliers posted on Whatzit, another Wards Master Quality small 4 drawer parts holder missing the top drawer(which I'd trade for something if someone wanted it), a Merit Hacksaw(never seen one before), and some sort of riveting tool that's also going on the Whatzit forum.

In the big pile of tools there's some Williams S-curve wrenches, screwdrivers by Gambles Expert, Williams, Upson, and a mess of other stuff you' d expect to find in an auction flat or tool box.

Man, is that a mix!  That crutch/cane-handled yankee-type spiral screwdriver, over toward the right, is pretty neat.  Does it work?  And is it a North Bros/Stanley tool, or someone else's?

Bill: Couldn't find any manufacturer's markings on the crutch handled unit, but the brown handled one is a MIllers Falls, and the conventional-handled one is a North Brothers and then there's a German made Fulton in the pile too.  The crutch unit is rally gummed up with reisdue on the flutes, but it appears to be at least semi funcitonal.  Not sure about the receiver for the bits though.  didn't check that part.  Maybe when the table space avails itself after ia get the shop back in order, I'll shoot a photo of it all spread out eliminatingthe ned for geezer glasses to see what's there.....lol
