need to ship a 95lb vise, any advise?

Has anyone ever shipped anything like this? I have a 95lb vise that I need to ship. Don't really know how I would go about packing something like this. Do they even make boxes that will support that kind of weight?

I have shipped a couple of vises, not quite that heavy but still pretty stout.
As I was shipping via USPS Parcel Post, I started by finding a box to fit the vise, cut a base from a piece of wood, bolted the vise to the wood and then add the sides to create a wood box that fit inside the cardboard box. If you are shipping motor freight, you would do the same except for the cardboard.

I have some pics at home of some of them I can post later.  Box it and brace it well to allow for the worst possible handling.

About 10 year ago, I sent a 1956 Chevy 3 speed overdrive transmission to Germany thru the U.S. Post Office. I took the trans apart and shipped in two different boxes. I also sent a factory service manual so the buyer could put it back together. I don't remember the cost, but it was not to bad.

Greyhound Package Express has worked for me . It has pluses and minuses. Plus: it is cheaper than LTL freight.  Plus: They don't use forklifts. (It is hard to hurt a vice).
Plus: Packaging is optional. You can securely tape a tag on it and ship it naked.  Minus: It is counter to counter. They do not deliver to your house. Both pick up and drop off are at Greyhound Package Terminals. Someone told me that Fastenal will ship economically from any store to any store. I don't know details on that.

I got a 90 pound Hay Budden from Bama using UPS. didn't box it or anything the horn was padded. It made it just fine. You might want to check bus shipping .

fastenal, the bolt company will take it store to store, good prices and u won't have to crate it.  i wouldn't buy anything from them though, way to high.

I just sent an 86lb Hay Budden anvil (sold it on ebay) from North Carolina to Washington state for about $80 (was supposed to be $100 but they give you a nice discount for opening an account) with FEDEX. I took some wood and made a small crate around it, and stapled cardboard to the outside. I've had similar things sent the same way with no problems...and Fedex has been $20-40 cheaper for me than UPS.

Reasonable, I looked back, it was around $35 to ship a very clean, and heavy Record vise up to N. H. and he was paying shipping.
I always quote shipping to a remote part of Washington State from Fl and then invoice the buyer for the true cheaper shipping.
