Monkey wrenches
« on: January 13, 2013, 09:46:56 PM »
Some of my monkey wrenches. All different. Some may look the same but have different markings.
2nd photo is my auto wrenches-#'s 5,9,10,11,14,15. Does anybody know of any different sizes that are out there that I should look for?

Thanks guys for your kind words. Have worked at auction sales as clerk and ringman for 30+ years and have picked up most of my stuff there. Remember that our area up here is only 100 years old (since it was settled by homesteaders) and so our finds are not as old as the eastern part of North America. We now travel south to OK and TX every Feb/Mar and I always look for new things(price needs to be right!!)

Favourites- In the JD pic the 2 monkey wrenches are neat. Also the deere cutout wrench with hammers is cool as it is rare. This wrench was given to me by a neighbour and I didn,t know it was valuable till I saw one listed on ebay.
The wrench (GA1717) lying sideways on the top of the IHC page is brass and Gil Irps(the IHC tool man) told me he had not seen one like it.
Also I have a set of homemade wheelwright tools(not pictured) made by a local farmer at the start of the depression years. The interesting thing is I found 2 of these in 5 gallon pails of junk at the estate that I bought for next to nothing. Later standing there looking through my buddys pails of goodies I found 2 more so I had the set and at the right price! To most people this is scrapand junk but to me it is priceless.

Well, there's at least 18 inchers, And I've heard rumours of a 24 inch...

What a hoard of these wrenches!  Impressive to say the least.

I have a 21" H.D. Smith perfect handle which I believe is the largest they made. I don't think I have seen an auto wrench over 11 inches.

I have a 1930's tool catalog that list "Heavy Duty Auto Wrenches" with a description of "Special analysis steel, drop forged, hardened and oil tempered".

They note length variety of 18" at a price of $2.75.
