My Bonney "indexable" ratchet
« on: September 17, 2013, 04:42:15 PM »
Some time ago a forum member gave me an old Bonney flex ratchet in 3/8". It wasn't working, and he didn't use it, so, he gave it to the bonneyman. All that was needed was a thorough gear cluster cleaning, and it worked fine.
But it was too slender and nice looking to use on the job. And I don't use flex heads much. So, it sat on my workbench for many months.
I then came up with the idea of a sideways operating ratchet, one that worked on a push-pull system.
I decided to take this flexhead Bonney, and convert it to what I later found out is an "indexable" style. (To be honest, a few days after I started. I discovered Harbor Freight made such a ratchet. But, I hadn't seen it earlier, and I was already on my way, so...).
After much thought, sweat, filing, and grinding, this is what I came up with. It works great. Took axle nuts off of a bicycle no problem....and fast, too! Plus, since I didn't modify the original components in any way, it can be converted back to a flex head at any time.

P.S. Please don't hate me, Ken W.  lol
